Hotel Shawandha Lodge : a birding lodge

Hotel Shawandha is THE best place to bird watch along the southern Caribbean coast of Costa Rica. Located on five acres of protected secondary forest, you can start your observations right on your terrace.

The hotel offers several bird watching excursions. Accompanied by our best local guide you will have the possibility to spot the birds missing from your list or simply take your time to enjoy watching the birds in their natural surroundings. Furthermore, of the 885 living species in Costa Rica, 407 were counted in the area, including water birds in the lagoon (site classified by RAMSAR) of the Gandoca-Manzanillo wildlife refuge. In season it is possible to observe migrating birds of prey from a bird watching tower, built for the occasion in a nearby indigenous reserve.

As the hotel is particularly well situated you will also be able to take a break under the coconut trees along one of the most beautiful beaches in the area, Playa Chiquita.
